प्रश्न
Explain why a gas bubble released at the bottom of a lake grows in size as it rises to the surface of the lake.

उत्तर
The reason is that when the bubble is at the bottom of the lake, total pressure exerted on it is the atmospheric pressure plus the pressure due to water column. As the gas bubble rises, due to decrease in depth the pressure due to water column decreases. By Boyle's law, PV = constant, so the volume of bubble increases due to decrease in pressure, i.e., the bubble grows in size.

What do you mean by buoyancy?
A body sinks in a liquid A but floats in a liquid B. The density of liquid A is ....... than the density of liquid B.
The density of aluminium is 2.7 g cm-3 and that of brass 8.4 g cm’3. The correct statement is
What is the cause of upthrust? At which point can it be considered to act?
Prove that the loss in weight of a body when immersed wholly or partially in a liquid is equal to the buoyant force (or upthrust) and this loss is because of the difference in pressure exerted by liquid on the upper and lower surfaces of the submerged part of body.
Two spheres A and B, each of volume 100 cm3 is placed on water (density = 1.0 g cm−3). The sphere A is made of wood of density 0.3 g cm−3 and sphere B is made of iron of density 8.9 g cm−3.
- Find:
- The weight of each sphere, and
- The upthrust on each sphere.
- Which sphere will float? Give reason.
A body is held inside water contained in a vessel by tying it with a thread to the base of the vessel. Name the three forces that keep the body in equilibrium, and state the direction in which each force acts.
The magnitude of buoyant force acting on an object immersed in a liquid depends on ______ of the liquid.
State whether true or false. If false, correct the statement.
The weight of fluid displaced determines the buoyant force on an object.
