  1. Legislative Powers: All types of bills originate from Lok Sabha and if a bill is passed by Rajya Sabha, it has to come to Lok Sabha for approval. In case of disagreement between the two Houses, the Lok Sabha will prevail in the joint sitting with the Rajya Sabha as it has more members than Rajya Sabha.
  2. Financial Powers: Only the Lok Sabha has the authority to introduce the Money Bill. In case Rajya Sabha disagrees with Lok Sabha in relation to Money Bill, it is up to Lok Sabha to accept or reject the suggestion given by Rajya Sabha.
  3. Executive Powers: The Council of Ministers is collectively responsible to Lok Sabha, the Lower House of the Parliament. Hence, the government is accountable to the Lok Sabha for its acts. The Lok Sabha can force the Council of Ministers to resign by passing a vote of no confidence against it. It can also exercise over the central executive through methods like questioning, cut-motions, debates, budget discussions, moving adjournment motions and call-attention motions, etc.
  4. Judicial Powers: The Lok Sabha can impeach the President and remove judges and constitutional authorities. It has the authority to punish members who violate their privileges. It helps maintain constitutional accountability.
  5. Electoral Functions: Lok Sabha members vote for the President and Vice President. It also elects the Speaker and the Deputy Speaker. These positions offer it power over both legislative and executive selections.
  6. Amendment ability: The Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha have equal ability to change the Constitution. Amendments require a two-thirds vote of the members present and voting. Some amendments require state ratification.
  7. Approval of the Declaration of Emergency: It must approve the President’s emergency proclamations. If the House is dissolved, the new Lok Sabha must approve it within thirty days. Consent is required to continue the emergency.
  8. Other Powers: The Lok Sabha passes ordinances, changes state names and boundaries, and determines the salaries of Members of Parliament. It also helps to shape national policy and holds the government accountable through various motions.
