At the beginning of translation, mRNA binds to a small, unique ribosomal subunit. The initial tRNA and the mRNA are surrounded by the ribosome. Methionine, an amino acid that matches the AUG start codon, makes up the majority of this tRNA's transport. This configuration is known as the initiating complex. It is necessary before the translation can start. The amino acid chain then extends through a process known as elongation. The particular acid that matches each codon in the growing protein is added after each codon in the mRNA is read one at a time. Termination is the process of releasing the finished polypeptide chain.
