There are four consequences of globalization:

  1. The rise of global corporations has turned the welfare state model into a minimalist state that only does the most basic things, like keeping the peace and protecting the country.
  2. Integrated markets, a result of globalization, affect the world’s economic policies. It means that different parts of the world have very similar policies.
  3. Some opponents of economic globalization call it the ‘recolonization of the world’ because it has hurt weaker countries and their poor more than it has helped multinational companies.
  4. Big Western countries have shaped culture by imposing their views on movies, food, fashion, writing, and other areas, such as McDonaldization, which has made cultures more alike.

  1. Political Consequences/Effects:
    1. In some circumstances, globalisation can reduce state capacity. The government would have only minimal influence over law and order and security, with the market determining economic and social priorities.
    2. In other circumstances, it does not result in the deterioration of state capacity, since the state remains significant in political affairs, continues to execute its key functions (law, order, security, and so on), and can consciously withdraw from specific sectors as it wishes.
    3. In rare circumstances, the state’s capacity may actually be increased. For example, new and improved technology enables the government to better govern its people. Globalization strengthens the state.
  2. Economic Consequences/Effects:
    1. The benefits of globalization are not shared equally. Some societies benefit, but others suffer adverse effects.
    2. Sometimes countries and international organizations impose economic globalization, and at other times it is consensual.
    3. There are fewer rules for moving money between countries. It has sparked a flow of ideas that has contributed to the expansion of computer and internet services worldwide.
    4. The people’s movement hasn’t grown as quickly or as much in size. For instance, most wealthy countries have visa laws that make it harder for people from other countries to enter to protect jobs.
  3. Cultural Consequences/Effects:
    1. Some people argue that globalisation threatens the world’s cultures by creating a homogenous culture, often known as Cultural Homogenisation.
    2. The culture of a politically and economically dominant society influences a weaker society. The globe begins to appear the way the dominating power wants it to.
    3. However, Cultural Homogenisation has the opposite effect, making each culture more distinct. This is an example of cultural heterogeneity.
    4. Some cultural influences are detrimental because they limit our options, whilst others are beneficial because they broaden them. They change our civilizations without displacing the established ones.
