  Potassium sulphite (K2SO3) Potassium sulphide (K2S)
1. On adding dilute HCl, a gas with a pungent choking smell is evolved. The gas is sulphur dioxide (SO2). On adding dilute HCl, a gas with a rotten egg smell is evolved. The gas is hydrogen sulphide (H2S).
2. \[\ce{K2SO3 + 2HCl -> 2KCl + H2O + SO2}\] \[\ce{K2S + 2HCl -> 2KCl + H2S}\]
