(i) The flow of information between two or more persons working at the same level of authority is called horizontal communication.  The flow of information from the top level or from the superiors to the lower level or subordinates is called vertical communication.
(ii) It is essential for achieving coordination in the enterprise. Its purpose is to communicate policies, procedures, programs, orders, etc., through lower levels.
