Ruta : Hello sir, Good morning!
Scientist: Good morning, Ruta
Ruta: I am glad that I have got this opportunity to speak to you today so that our students can know more about the world of science.
Scientist: I would love to share my knowledge and experience with you all.
Ruta: Sir, students these days are more aware about scientific knowledge and they are developing scientific attitude due to which they are not superstitious. But there are still people who believe in all this. How can we make them understand?
Scientist: Science gives reasons and proper justification for all superstitious activities. For example, cutting nails during night time in ancient time was not allowed as it was dark and there were possibilities of people getting hurt but superstitious people gave all other reasons. So, science gives proper reasoning to all of these and develops rational and logical thinking in people.
Ruta: Got your point sir! There are lot of updates and advancements in technology and people are misusing it. So, how can we change this, especially in students?
Scientist: Science is a boon as well as a curse for the people. It's in our hands how we want to use it. Science has developed various latest technology which can be utilized in the best way and simplify life. For example, Mobile phones are created for easy connectivity and access to several apps and info for people.
Ruta: Science has shown many great inventions and achievements in the field of medicine also. We would like to know more about it Sir.
Scientist: Yes, you are right that the majority of Science was developed to serve humans with their illnesses and to decrease the death rate due to various diseases. If you see in the field of medicine, science has developed medicines even for diseases that were once not curable like T.B, Cancer, etc. And we are still working further to cure diseases like HIV, etc... which is a concern.
Ruta: That’s really great Sir. Though we know that science is always judged and misinterpreted by several people we still have many people who always think scientifically and then follow it. So, do you think science is for the betterment of humanity?
Scientist: Of course, Science was always invented and developed for the betterment of humans and humanity whether be removing superstitions, curing diseases, or making our nation proud with the latest inventions, etc.
Ruta: I am glad to know this Sir.
Scientist: I think all the students should think rationally and logically to get an appropriate answer to their questions related to science, religion or superstitions.
Ruta: Do you think science by any chance contributes to our economy?
Scientist: Indeed. Science and its invention have always made our nation proud. When the inventions are applied and popular their demand in other countries is also seen which is later imported to them. So, imports of goods contribute to our economy. Also, income from our citizen's spending within the country contributes towards our national income. Hence, it directly or indirectly contributes to our economy.
Ruta: That’s fantastic! Last but not least sir, what message would you like to give to our youths?
Scientist: My only request to all the youths is always know the actual reason behind several beliefs, think logically and use technology at its best. Science is for our betterment so do not misuse it. Understand the importance of science in our life as you all are our future scientists.
Ruta: Thank you very much sir for all the information you have shared with us. It was great talking to you. I am sure this information would be beneficial to all our students.

You may begin with : George flashed a pocket torch and saw the boys looking about….

(George flashes a pocket torch. The boys look about them but not so far up stage as to notice the white models, nor do they see the skull, towards which their backs are turned.)

Tom :  (crossing R. C.). This is a queer place. I wonder if there’s anybody in the house.

George : You’ve picked three empty houses already, and you let us sing the whole of While Shepherds Watched outside the last one before you found out your mistake.

Tom : Well, that’s better than what you did — you picked the house where they had that bulldog.

George : (contemptuously). I wasn’t afraid of the bulldog.

Tom : No, maybe you weren’t: but I’m not sure that the savage beast hasn’t torn off a bit of young Alfie’s suit, and if he has there won’t half be a row! (Alfie fidgets nervously at the mention of his damaged suit.)

Tom : (down R.C.). How much money have we collected?

Ginger : (crossing C. to George). Let’s have a look under the light. (After counting coppers, with the aid of George’s torch.) Eightpence halfpenny.

Tom : (in a tone of disgust). Only eightpence halfpenny — between four of us —after yelling our heads off all the evening! Crikey! Money’s a bit tight round these parts, isn’t it?

George : I told you it was too early for carol-singing. It’s too soon after Guy Fawkes’ day.

(Faint distant scream off R.)

Tom : (startled). What was that?

George: What was what?
Tom : That noise — it sounded like a scream.

George: Nonsense.

Alfie :   (L). Let’s go home.

George: Nonsense.
Alfie : (L) Let’s go home.
George: You chaps do get scared easily. It wouldn’t do for you to be in the club that Bert Williams and I are running. We go out looking for adventures like this.
Ginger: Club? I thought it was a gang.
George: Gangs are getting too common. We have turned ours into a club – “The Do and Dare Club” we call it and no one in it must ever show a sign of fear.
Tom : I shouldn’t think you’d have many members. Why, everybody’s afraid of something – if it’s not one thing, it’s bound to be another.
George: (in a very superior tone) Ours isn’t a club for kids; it’s for daring young fellows keen on adventure.
