Animal abuse or animal neglect is the human infliction to harm any non-human animal, for the purpose other than self-defense or survival. It can take different forms and includes intentional acts of violence and neglect, killing animals for food, fur or other products or for the mere entertainment. Several laws have been made to prevent cruelty towards animals.
We should adopt effective measures to stop the cruelty towards animals. A variety of products, from cosmetics to pharmaceutical drugs, are tested on animals. Many products are made from animals. We should stop using these products. We should conduct workshops and street plays among rural areas to spread awareness against the usage of animals for the purpose of transportation. Many people believe that the best way to curb animal cruelty is by not eating animals or animal products at all. This is called vegetarianism/veganism.
One can get politically involved as well by joining or donating to anti-animal cruelty organisations. One should start a neighbourhood watch in one's area. You can encourage your family and friends to do the same. And if you see any kind of animal abuse happening around you, you should not hesitate to report it to the proper authorities. Most municipalities have a local animal control department, animal shelter and humane society. One should make a call the moment he/she sees someone torturing an animal. In rural areas or community, one should call the local police department to report suspected animal abuse.
Just because we are humans and can speak, we should not be cruel towards those who cannot speak. On the other hand, we should speak for them.
