Mrs. Pumphrey loved her dog Tricki very much and treated him like a small child. She fed him too much food, like sweets, cakes, and chocolates, which made him very fat and lazy. He stopped playing and became dull and sick. The doctor, Dr. Herriot, advised Mrs. Pumphrey to give Tricki less food and more exercise, but she did not follow his advice properly. Soon, Tricki became very ill and had to be taken to the hospital for treatment.

At the hospital, Tricki was given only water and simple food. He also got plenty of exercise. Slowly, he became active and healthy again. After a few days, he became a strong, energetic dog. When Mrs. Pumphrey came to take him home, Tricki happily jumped onto her lap, showing his love for her.
