उत्तर

- Spirogyra is a green alga belonging to the Thallophyta group of plants. It is commonly found in fresh water, such as ponds, lakes, and slow-moving streams.
- It can survive only in water. The body of Spirogyra is long, thin, and filamentous, like a thread. It is made up of many cells joined end to end, forming an unbranched filament.
- Each cell contains chlorophyll, which allows the plant to perform photosynthesis and prepare its own food.
- A unique feature of Spirogyra is its spiral-shaped chloroplasts, which run along the length of the cell.
- Within these spiral chloroplasts are small, dot-like structures called pyrenoids, which help in the storage of starch. Spirogyra is a multicellular and non-vascular organism.
- It reproduces asexually through fragmentation, where the filament breaks into smaller pieces, and each piece grows into a new organism.
