Dr. Sadao and his wife Hana had a long-standing conflict. They couldn't toss a wounded man back into the sea. They feared being jailed for providing shelter to him in their home. Handing him up to the police would have resulted in his death. They were experiencing extreme conflict. Doctors prioritise their duty above all else. The servants refused to serve a white man. Hana herself cleansed the wound. Dr. Sadao chose to operate on Tom.
Hana obeyed her husband without speaking. Hana was responsible for administering anaesthesia to the patient as needed. The doctor performed a clean, accurate incision. The bullet had exited. Dr. Sadao remarked, “This man will live in spite of all.” Thus, Dr. Sadao saved a dying man. As a result, a doctor’s ethics took precedence over racial bias. However, as a great patriot, he informed the General about the prisoner.
