In "The Thief's Story," a small-time thief discovers the value of kindness and trust. The reader also gains knowledge about how moral behaviour can be countered and a person can be changed for the better. Anil is portrayed as being irresponsible with money, but what distinguishes him from the wealthy and the greedy is how he chooses to view the development that people are capable of demonstrating. Even though he is aware that the thief tried to steal his money, he still has faith in the effectiveness of his compassion and support. The thief was completely transformed by Anil's kindness, support, and care; as a result, he no longer practices theft and has developed skills that will enable him to support himself in the future. The narrative exemplifies the transforming power of kindness and empathy, which can have a positive influence on a person's life and motivate them to make positive changes.

“Hello again,” he said.
I gave him my most appealing smile. “I want to work for you”. I said.
“But I can't pay you.”
I thought that over for a minute. Perhaps I had misjudged my man. I asked, “Can you feed me ?”
“Can you cook ?”
“I can cook,” I lied again.
“If you can cook, then may be I can feed you.”
He took me to his room over the Jumna Sweet Shop and told me I could sleep on the balcony. But the meal I cooked that night must have been terrible because Anil gave it to a stray dog and told me to be off. But I just hung around, smiling in my most appealing way, and he couldn’t help laughing.
