Born on 21st March, 1685, this German came from a family of musicians. His father, Johann Ambrosius, worked as a town musician in Eisenach, Germany and taught young Johann to play the violin. Bach had a beautiful soprano voice, which helped him secure a place at a school in Lüneburg. Regarded as perhaps the greatest composer of all time, Bach was known during his lifetime primarily as an outstanding organ player and technician.
