Sub: Complaint regarding chaotic conditions in the casualty ward
Sir,
I was shocked to see the actual condition of Delhi’s “City General Hospital”, one of the most prestigious hospitals, yesterday. Delhi is regarded as the heart of our nation. However, I saw our second “Gods”, the doctors, acting callously.
I went to the hospital with the victim of a ‘hit and run’ accident. I requested that the doctors in the casualty section treat him immediately, as he was bleeding excessively. However, the doctors ignored my hand-folded requests. Instead of assisting him, they suggested the police handle the situation first. I was requested to pay an extensive amount at the counter to get him admitted to the hospital. I was in a difficult situation as the victim was not someone I knew. I provide assistance out of empathy for him. I was fortunate to have an advocate friend present. He asked doctors to begin treatment right away and cautioned them that if they were negligent or waited for a police investigation, they would face legal consequences. Although the injured were eventually treated, valuable time had been lost.
I hope you will investigate this yourself in order to prevent future instances of the terrible incompetence that could bring disgrace to this honourable profession.
Thanking you.
Yours sincerely,
Deepa
