उत्तर

We can identify convex mirror, concave mirror, and a plane mirror by looking at them one by one.

  1. If the size of the image of an object is of the same size as that of the object, then that mirror is a plane mirror.
  2. If the size of image of an object increases as the object is brought closer to the mirror and the size of the image of the object decreases when the object is taken away from the mirror, then that mirror is a concave mirror.
  3. If the size of the image of an object remains diminished, either the object is moved away from the mirror or moved towards the mirror, then that mirror is a convex mirror.

State two uses of a plane mirror.

Explain the following term:

Angle of reflection. Draw diagram/diagrams to show them.

Draw a diagram to show the reflection of a ray of light using a plane mirror. In the diagram, label the incident ray, the reflected ray, the normal, the angle of incidence and the angle of reflection.

The diagram in Figure shows a point object in front of a plane mirror MM1.

(a) Complete the diagram by taking two rays from the point P to show the formation of its image.

(b) In the diagram, mark the position of eye to see the image.

(c) Is the image formed real or virtual? Explain why?

The angle between the incident ray and the normal to the surface at the point of incidence is called the angle of incidence.

State three characteristics of light.

State whether the following statement is true or false. If false, correct it.

The angle of incidence is the angle made by the incident ray with the plane mirror.

Reflection occurs , when the light

Beams of light are incident through the holes A and B and emerge out of box through the holes C and D respectively as shown in the Figure Which of the following could be inside the box?

A burning candle in water

Take a shoe box, open on one side. Place a small lighted candle in it. Place a clear glass sheet (roughly 25 cm × 25 cm) in front of this candle figure. Try to locate the image of the candle behind the glass sheet. Place a glass of water at its position. Ask your friends to look at the image of the candle through the sheet of glass. Ensure that candle is not visible to your friends. Your friends will be surprised to see the candle burning in water. Try to explain the reason.
