You are given a project to display different parts of cell organelles (as a 3D model) for your term assessment along with the explanation about chromosomes.

To make a cell: Take a round yellow plastic ball (about the size of a tennis ball). Cut it into equal halves. In one half (lower part) of the ball, add transparent gel-like material (e.g., sanitiser, hair gel). Make colourful organelles having shapes similar to those found in a cell. Use thermocole or small plastic sheets to make organelles. Make sure you make all the important organelles: Golgi body, Mitochondria, Endoplasmic reticulum, Vacuoles, Nucleus, Lysosome (one each). They should all float.

To make nucleus: Take a TT ball and cut it into half. Fill the lower half also with a gel-like substance. Add small springs (you can use the ones you have in your ball pens). Close the ball with the upper part of the half. Add a few drops of fevicol on the edges. Now float it inside the yellow plastic ball along with the other organelles. Your cell is ready.

Now, prepare your speech and explain each organelle as you display them.

Presentation Speech: The 3D Cell Model

Respected Teacher and my dear friends, Good morning.

Today, I am excited to present my 3D model of an animal cell, which I have created using a hollow plastic ball as the cell membrane, filled with transparent hair gel to represent the cytoplasm. Embedded within this cytoplasm are the vital working units of the cell, known as cell organelles. Let me explain each one as I point to them in my model:

  • Nucleus: This central TT-ball represents the nucleus, the control center of the cell. Inside it, I have placed metal springs to depict chromosomes, which contain DNA and carry hereditary information for cell division.
  • 2. Mitochondria: These tiny oval structures are the mitochondria. They are known as the powerhouses of the cell because they generate cellular energy in the form of ATP.
  • 3. Endoplasmic Reticulum (ER): This folded sheet structure represents the ER. It forms a supportive network in the cell and helps in the transport and synthesis of proteins and lipids.
  • 4. Golgi Body: Located near the nucleus, these flat sacs are the Golgi bodies. Their main function is to package, modify, and dispatch proteins to different parts of the cell.
  • 5. Lysosomes: These small spherical structures are lysosomes. They act as the cell's waste disposal system, containing digestive enzymes to destroy worn-out components, which is why they are often called suicide bags.
  • 6. Vacuoles: Finally, these smaller clear spaces represent vacuoles, which are used for storing water, nutrients, and waste products in the animal cell.

Together, all these organelles work in perfect harmony to keep the cell alive and functioning. Thank you!
