1. Assign each timekeeper the positions/places they must record.
2. Ensure winning places are recorded by three timekeepers plus an alternate (and arrange appropriate coverage for other places).
3. Collect all timing slips quickly, consolidate the times, decide the official time (per the rules) and forward certified results to the referee/recorder.
4. Keep the timekeeping team attentive and coordinated (give pre-start warnings like “watch out” or “get ready” and coordinate with the starter).
5. Insist watches are not reset/clicked back until instructed, check other timekeepers’ timings when necessary, and use the alternate watch if a regular watch fails.
