- Given India’s heritage, there are plenty of opportunities for tourism across many parts of the country. Many places are being developed for this purpose.
- The Gateway of India in Mumbai, the Ajanta Caves in Aurangabad and other heritage sites attract foreign tourists.
- Many tourists visit the north-eastern states of India for their natural beauty as well as their distinctive art and culture. For e.g. Guwahati in Assam, places in Manipur, Meghalaya, Nagaland, etc. Moreover, some natural heritage sites, such as Kaziranga National Park and Sundarbans National Park, are visited by many tourists.
- Many religious places are also developed as tourist destinations, such as Varanasi, Haridwar, and Rameshwaram.
