उत्तर

The main source of protein for India’s largely vegetarian population comes from pulses. The rise in grain production has outpaced the growth in pulse production. On a nationwide scale, pulses’ proportion of gross cropped area has decreased. Crop rotation, however, can expand the area planted to pulses. Pulses were produced at a total of 84.11 lakh tonnes in 1950–51 and 240 lakh tonnes in 2018–19. Approximately 90% of Karnataka’s land is rainfed. Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Odisha, Jharkhand, Gujarat, and Chhattisgarh are among the states that generate a lot of pulses. Both the rabi and kharif seasons are used to grow them. The rabi crops are gram, peas, masur, and urad, whereas the kharif crops are arhar (tur), moong, urad, moth, development, etc. To boost pulse production, the National Pulses Program (NPDP) was created in 1986–87.
