Conformity behaviour refers to the tendency of individuals to adjust their thoughts, feelings, or actions to match those of a group or social norms. It involves yielding to group pressure, whether real or imagined.
People conform for various reasons, such as the desire to fit in (normative influence) or the belief that the group has better information (informational influence). Classic studies, like Asch’s line experiments, showed how strongly people can conform even against clear evidence.
Conformity helps maintain social order and cohesion but can also lead to uncritical acceptance of group decisions.
