उत्तर
- Flight Adaptations: To fly easily, birds have hollow (pneumatic) bones to reduce body weight and a streamlined shape to cut through air resistance. They also possess powerful breast muscles attached to a keeled sternum for flapping their wings.
- Aquatic Adaptations: Animals in water have streamlined bodies and fins to move efficiently and gills to breathe dissolved oxygen. Many fish also use a swim bladder to maintain their depth (buoyancy) without sinking.
- Desert Adaptations: To survive extreme heat, desert animals are often nocturnal and live in underground burrows to stay cool. They conserve water by having highly efficient kidneys that produce very concentrated waste.
- Fossorial, Arboreal, and Cursorial Adaptations: Fossorial animals have strong claws for digging, while arboreal animals use prehensile tails or adhesive pads to climb trees. Cursorial animals have long, slender limbs designed for high-speed running on land.
- Parasitic Adaptations: Parasites use hooks or suckers to stay firmly attached to their host's body. Because they get “pre-digested” food, they have simplified digestive systems and produce massive amounts of eggs to ensure survival.
