The U.S. Constitution provides for the office of the Vice-President to succeed the President in case of death, resignation, or removal by impeachment. The qualifications are the same as those for the President, the candidate must be a natural-born citizen of the USA, above the age of 35 years, and a resident of the USA for at least 14 years. The method of election is the same as that of the President, through the Electoral College. After the 12th Amendment, separate ballots are used for electing the President and the Vice-President. In case of a vacancy, the President nominates a Vice-President with the approval of Congress. The vice president holds office for four years and there is no restriction on the number of terms. He can be removed from office by impeachment. The Vice-President receives an annual salary of $243,500 along with residence and other perks.
