उत्तर

The thermodynamic stability of a complex is contingent upon the degree of interaction between the metal ion and ligands. The complex formed would be thermodynamically more stable if the interaction is high.

As we have previously observed, the reaction between a metal ion and a ligand can be considered a Lewis acid-base reaction. Let Ma+ be a metal ion that interacts with n ligands Lx− to form a complex [ML,]b+. The charges of the metal, ligand, and complex are represented by a, x, and b, respectively. The equilibrium that describes the reaction between the metal ion and ligands is as follows.

Ma+ + nLx− ⇌ [MLn]b+

The stability constant, denoted by K, is the equilibrium constant for the equilibrium above. It is administered by

K = `[ML_n]^(b+)/([M^(a+)][L^(x-)]^n)`

The stability constant is a critical parameter of a complex. It may convey a complex’s thermodynamic stability, as it indicates its stability in solution. Increasing the value of the stability constant enhances the thermodynamic stability of the solution complex.
