उत्तर
Hybrid vigour, or heterosis, is the phenomenon where the offspring (hybrids) resulting from the cross between two genetically different homozygous inbred parents show greater vigour, productivity, sturdiness, and height than either parent. This superiority is called heterosis. It is widely used in crop improvement to increase the yield and quality of various crops. The term “heterosis” was coined by G.H. Shull in 1914. Hybrid vigour is exploited commercially in cereals, millets, vegetables, oil crops, sugar-yielding crops, and fruit trees.
