Why is zinc not extracted from zinc oxide through reduction using CO?

उत्तर
The Zn, ZnO curve is below the CO, CO2 curve in the Ellingham diagram. This suggests that ΔG° is less negative for the creation of CO2 from CO than it is for the formation of ZnO from Zn. Therefore, a very high temperature may be needed for the reduction process if CO is utilised as a reducing agent. For this reason, reduction with CO is not used to extract zinc from ZnO.
