Question

Why is species diversity important?

Answer 1

Greater diversity can support ecosystem productivity and stability. More diverse communities have shown less year-to-year variation in biomass and can be more resilient to disturbances and resistant to invasion by alien species. Biodiversity also provides food, medicines, genetic resources and essential ecosystem services.
