प्रश्न
Why is photosynthesis considered an endothermic reaction?
Advertisements
उत्तर
The photosynthesis reaction involves two reactants: carbon dioxide and water. These two reactants produce two products, oxygen and glucose. Hence, the photosynthesis reaction is classified as endothermic. The following is the photosynthesis formula:
\[\ce{6CO2 + 6H2O -> C6H12O6 + 6O2}\]
In contrast to plants, certain bacteria that engage in photosynthesis do not generate oxygen as a by-product. These bacteria are referred to as anoxygenic photosynthetic bacteria. Bacteria that generate oxygen as a by-product of photosynthesis are termed oxygenic photosynthetic bacteria. Photosynthesis is an endothermic reaction because sunlight energy is absorbed by green plants during this process.
