उत्तर

Due to refraction, when the rays travel from water to air, the apparent image of the fish is formed at a higher level and ahead of the actual position of fish. Thus, when the fisherman aims at the tail of the apparent image of fish, his spear hits the head of actual fish.

After tracing the path of a ray of light passing through a rectangular glass slab for four different values of the angle of incidence, a student reported his observations in tabular form as given below:

S.No ∠ i ∠ r ∠ e
I 30° 19° 29°
II 40° 28° 40°
III 50° 36° 50°
IV 60° 40° 59°

The best observation is

(A) I

(B) II

(C) III

(D) IV

In an experiment of finding the refractive index of glass, if blue light is replaced by the red light, how will the refractive index of glass change? Give reason in support of your answer.

A ray of light strikes the surface at a rectangular glass slab such that the angle of incidence is 45o.

In each case, draw diagram to show the path taken by the ray as it passes through the glass slab and emerges from it.

Name two instruments of the total refracting prism in which is used.

In the diagram below, PQ is a ray of light incident on a rectangular glass block.

Copy the diagram and complete the path of the ray of light through the glass block. In your diagram, mark the angle of incidence by letter ‘i’ and the angle of emergence by the letter ‘e’.

In the diagram alongside a ray of light, PQ is incident normally on one face AB of an equilateral glass prism. What is the angle of incidence at the faces AB and AC?

The diagram below shows two parallel rays A (Orange) & B (Blue) incident from air, on air-glass boundary.

  1. Copy and complete the path of the rays A and B.
  2. How do the speeds of these rays differ in glass?
  3. Are the two refracted rays in glass parallel? Give a reason.
