उत्तर
Irrigation structures such as dams and canals were very important because they provided water for agriculture, drinking and other daily needs. They helped farmers grow crops regularly, especially when rainfall was insufficient, and increased food production. They also supported the growth of settlements, trade and kingdoms. Therefore, rulers recorded their construction in inscriptions to show their achievements, concern for the welfare of people and ability to manage important public works.
