The type of migration with the maximum number of migrants in India is Intra-State Migration.
Intra-state migration refers to the movement of people within the same state, such as from one village to another or from a rural area to a nearby city. According to census data, intra-state migration accounts for the majority of total migration in India.
This is especially true for female migrants, where marriage is the leading cause. In rural areas, women often move to their husband’s home after marriage, contributing to a high number of rural-to-rural migrations within the same state.
While inter-state migration (movement from one state to another) is also significant, it is mostly driven by economic reasons like job opportunities. However, the total number of people involved in intra-state migration is much higher.
