Vertical Analysis is the method of analyzing financial statements for a single year, where each item in the statement is expressed as a percentage of the total. The total is taken as 100%, and each item’s value is shown in relation to this total. Such statements are called Common Size Statements, useful for comparing financial data within a single period or among different companies or departments in the same period.
