The most accepted theory regarding the origin of the Himalayas is the Plate Tectonic Theory. According to this theory, the Himalayas were formed as a result of the collision between the Indian Plate and the Eurasian Plate. Around 50 to 55 million years ago, the Indian subcontinent drifted northwards and collided with the Eurasian landmass, causing the Earth's crust to fold and form the Himalayan mountain range. This ongoing collision continues to raise the mountains today.
