What is the importance of the technical area?

Technical areas can differ from one stadium to another, such as in their size or position, so the following notes are provided as general guidelines.

1. The technical area stretches 1 m (1 yd) on each side of the designated seating area and extends forward up to 1 m (1 yd) from the touchline.
2. It is advisable to use markings to clearly indicate this area.
3. The number of people allowed in the technical area must follow the rules of the competition.
4. The individuals allowed in the technical area are identified before the match begins, in line with the competition rules.
5. Only one person is permitted at a time to give tactical instructions, and they must return to their position after doing so.
6. The coach and other officials must stay within the limits of the technical area, except in special situations, such as when a physiotherapist or doctor enters the field with the referee’s permission to examine an injured player.
