उत्तर

Chloroform condenses with acetone in the presence of potassium hydroxide to give chloretone. This is a nucleophilic addition reaction where the deprotonated chloroform acts as a nucleophile, attacking the carbonyl carbon of acetone. The resulting product, chloretone, has historically been used as a mild sedative and anesthetic and as a preservative in pharmaceutical products.
