उत्तर
Ambient air quality refers to the condition of the outdoor air that surrounds people and the environment, described by the measured concentrations of pollutants such as particulate matter (PM2.5 and PM10), ozone (O3), nitrogen dioxide (NO2), sulfur dioxide (SO2), carbon monoxide (CO) and various hydrocarbons; those concentrations are tracked by monitoring networks and summarized for the public using an Air Quality Index (AQI) that maps pollutant levels to categories (Good, Moderate, Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups, Unhealthy, Very Unhealthy, Hazardous) with corresponding health advice. Poor ambient air quality, especially elevated fine particulates and certain gases, can cause or worsen respiratory and cardiovascular problems and other health effects, and arises from sources such as vehicle exhaust, industrial emissions, burning of waste or crop residue, and natural dust or wildfires; governments and environmental agencies run monitoring programs and set standards to protect public health.
