By hit and trial method,
P(1) = 3(1)3 + 2(1)2 – 19(1) + 6
= 3 + 2 – 19 + 6
= –8 ≠ 0
P(–1) = 3(–1)3 + 2(–1)2 – 19(–1) + 6
= –3 + 2 + 19 + 6
= 24 ≠ 0
P(2) = 3(2)3 + 2(2)2 – 19(2) + 6
= 24 + 8 – 38 + 6
= 0
Thus, (x – 2) is a factor of P(x).
Now,
3x2 + 8x – 3
