उत्तर

Pythagoras theorem states that in a right-angled triangle, the square of the hypotenuse is equal to the sum of the squares of the other two sides.

Given,

Two poles are 4 m and 9 m high. They are on the same ground and the distance between them is 12 m. Find the distance between their tops.

(Hypotenuse)2 = (base)2 + (height)2

⇒ (Hypotenuse)2 = (12)2 + (5)2

⇒ (Hypotenuse)2 = 144 + 25 = 169

⇒ Hypotenuse = `sqrt(169)` = 13 m

Hence, this is required.
