प्रश्न
Two large, thin metal plates are parallel and close to each other. On their inner faces, the plates have surface charge densities of opposite signs and of magnitude 17.7 × 10–22 C/m2. What is electric field intensity E:
- in the outer region of the first plate, and
- between the plates?

उत्तर

Surface charge density of plate A = +17.7 × 10–22 C/m2
Surface charge density of plate B = –17.7 × 10–22 C/m2
- In the outer region of plate I, the electric field intensity E is zero.
- Electric field intensity E in between the plates is given by the relation E = `σ/∈_0`
Where, ∈0 = Permittivity of free space = 8.85 × 10–12 N–1C2m–2
∴ E = `(17.7 xx 10^-22)/(8.85 xx 10^-1)`
Therefore, the electric field between the plates is 2.0 × 10–10N/C
