Urdu progressed very much in the 18th century when Mughal Emperor Muhammad Shah (1719-1748) Patronised Urdu. Urdu was also patronised by Bahmani rulers of Deccan. The great poets were Mir Dad, Mirza Galib (the court poet of Bahadur Shah Zafar).
