• Rotating saw-rollers with sharp teeth pull the fibres (lint) through closely spaced ribs; the seeds are too large to pass and drop out separately.
• Rotating brushes strip the lint from the saw teeth; the lint is collected and compressed into bales, while the seeds are removed (often later crushed for oil and the cake used as fodder).
