उत्तर

  1. The US detonated atomic bombs on Hiroshima (6 August 1945) and Nagasaki (9 August 1945), causing tremendous destruction. Tens of thousands died quickly, and many more died later from radiation, causing Japan to end the war.
  2. Conventional bombings had already caused enormous damage in Japan, including major cities and industrial sites. Its military was weakened, supply lines were disrupted, and morale among both soldiers and citizens was extremely low.
  3. On August 8, 1945, the Soviet Union declared war on Japan and invaded Japanese-controlled regions in Manchuria. This established a new front, stretching Japanese forces thin and making resistance against many enemies impossible.
  4. Japan experienced an awful lack of key resources such as food, gasoline, and raw materials. Blockades and bombings had damaged supply routes, making it extremely difficult to feed the army and civilian population.
  5. Continuous Allied pressure, including naval blockades, air raids, and demands for unconditional surrender, left Japan with no credible military alternatives, forcing its commanders to reconsider their approach.
  6. Finally, Emperor Hirohito intervened, knowing that continued resistance would result in the destruction of the country and the deaths of many civilians. On August 15, 1945, he accepted the conditions of surrender, effectively ending World War II in Asia.
