A Recorder may be allocated a specific duty or limited duties within the recording process. Recorders must understand their entire role and responsibilities. Recorders may need to do the following duties, regardless of the electrical timing and equipment used:

• Recorders are responsible for accurately noting the official times, placements, and results of each swimmer in a race.
• They ensure that all recorded results are complete and correctly documented.
• They check and verify the timing sheets or automatic timing system outputs.
• Recorders help compile official results for announcement and distribution.
• They assist in resolving any discrepancies in times or placements in coordination with referees and other officials.
• They maintain clear, organized records to ensure the accuracy and integrity of competition results.
