उत्तर

Comparing equation 3x2 + 11x – 4 = 0 with ax2 + bx + c = 0, we get :

a = 3, b = 11 and c = –4.

By formula,

`x = (-b ± sqrt(b^2 - 4ac))/(2a)`

Substituting values we get:

⇒ `x = (-(11) ± sqrt((11)^2 - 4 xx (3) xx (-4)))/(2(3))`

= `(-11 ± sqrt(121 + 48))/6`

= `(-11 ± sqrt(169))/6`

= `(-11 ± 13)/6`

= `(-11 + 13)/6` or `(-11 - 13)/6`

= `2/6` or `(-24)/6`

= `1/3` or –4

Hence, `x = {1/3, -4}`.
