उत्तर

  • The Himalayas: Formed mainly by the collision of the Indian Plate with the Eurasian Plate, which caused folding and uplift of the Earth's crust.
  • The Northern Plains: Developed in a tectonic depression between the Himalayas and the Peninsular Plateau. This depression was later filled with sediments brought by rivers.
  • The Peninsular Plateau: An ancient landmass formed through uplift, faulting and volcanic activity over a long period.
  • The Coastal Plains: Their formation is associated with tectonic movements and changes in sea level, along with later deposition by rivers and the sea.
  • The Islands: The Andaman and Nicobar Islands are associated with tectonic activity, while some islands have a volcanic origin.

Thus, the major physiographic divisions of India were shaped by different endogenic forces such as plate movements, folding, faulting, uplift and volcanic activity.
