3. Other leaders came from among the sepoys, local chiefs and religious figures.
4. A similarity was that most leaders were expected to organise people, give direction and represent the rebels.
5. A major difference was that some leaders already had traditional political authority, while others became leaders because of their role in the revolt.
6. Ordinary people were often drawn to leaders who were well known and respected in their region.
7. People also supported leaders who promised to protect their land, religion, customs and traditional rights.
8. Some leaders became popular because they were seen as standing against British rule and injustice.

Therefore, the leaders of the revolt came from different backgrounds, but people followed them because they offered leadership, protection and hope during a time of conflict.
