Gandhi:	I support better representation for them, but I want it to happen within a united Hindu community.
Ambedkar:	Political rights are necessary because social discrimination has continued for a very long time.
Gandhi:	I agree that untouchability is a serious evil and must be removed completely.
Ambedkar:	Then the Depressed Classes must have a strong political voice so that they can protect their own interests.
Gandhi:	I am ready to support reserved seats, but not a completely separate electorate.
Ambedkar:	If proper reservation and representation are guaranteed, we can consider a compromise.
Gandhi:	Yes, we should work towards both social equality and political representation.

Their disagreement was finally settled through the Poona Pact of 1932, under which separate electorates were dropped, but reserved seats were provided for the Depressed Classes in joint electorates.
