Rani reads a few pages of a novel everyday. She reads the following number of pages per day in a week.

23, 26, 21, 19, 37, 18, 24

1. Find the mean number of pages read by her.
2. Also find the median.

(i)

Total pages = 23 + 26 + 21 + 19 + 37 + 18 + 24 = 168

Mean = `"Sum of observations"/"Total number of observations"`

= `(168)/7`

= 24

(ii)

Arranging the numbers in ascending order = 18, 19, 21, 23, 24, 26, 37

n = 7 observations

Median = `(n + 1)/2`

= `(7 + 1)/2`

= 4th observations

∴ Median = 23
