  • Plates that slide past each other can also create friction and sudden movements, resulting in earthquakes.
  • Therefore, the pattern of earthquakes and volcanoes around the world is closely related to tectonic plate movements.
  • The Pacific Ring of Fire is a major example, as it experiences frequent earthquakes and has many active volcanoes due to the movement of several tectonic plates.
