“Educational Trip to Central Pollution Control Board”

Students from Class IX went on an educational trip to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) with their professors. The purpose of the visit was to learn firsthand about the many types of pollutants in India as well as pollution-reduction techniques.
During the conversation, officials explained air pollutants such as carbon monoxide, sulphur dioxide, nitrogen oxides, ozone, and particle matter. Water pollutants mostly comprise sewage, industrial effluents, pesticides, and plastics, whereas soil pollutants include solid waste, chemicals, and biomedical waste. It was also reported that about 70% of India’s surface water is polluted, and metro cities often record PM2.5 levels that exceed permissible standards.
For abatement, the CPCB encourages the use of clean fuels, sewage and effluent treatment plants, afforestation, waste segregation, recycling, and composting. Officials emphasised that citizens must participate by decreasing plastic consumption, conserving water and electricity, and following the 3Rs - Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle.
The trip was highly informative. Students understood not only the severity of pollution but also the important role of individuals in protecting the environment.
