उत्तर

The character of Nancy Lammeter in Silas Marner matures during the course of the story. Not the brightest nor most educated woman, Nancy sticks to the principles taught by her father. The character is not bereft of flaws. Nancy contradicts herself a lot. While she attempts to be respectful, righteous and virtuous, she does admit to have a liking for Godfrey Cass.

Nancy exhibits strange behaviors, from being watchful of omens (denoting superstition), to having peculiar ideas about how she and sister Priscilla should dress and act in front of people. Nancy's life transforms after marrying Godfrey, the very man she said she would never marry. Her strength of nature is displayed when she refuses to adopt a child, although she cannot have children because she believes such an act disregards the fate given by God.
